Meeting of National Committee on Biodiversity held
Md Shahab Uddin, Minister Environment, Forest and Climate Change said it is the constitutional obligation of all citizens of Bangladesh to preserve the country's biodiversity. The present government under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has added Article 18(a) to the Constitution to give importance to biodiversity conservation. He said that now that awareness has increased, people are refraining from killing wild animals. All animals must be allowed to live in order for humans to live beautifully.
The environment minister opined so while addressing the third meeting of the National Committee on Biodiversity held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Wednesday.
The meeting reviewed the progress of implementation of the decisions of the previous meetings. It was also decided to update the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan ahead of the next UN Biodiversity Conference. In addition, it has been decided to send the biological sample of Vibrio Cholerae to The Welcome Sanger Institute in Britain.
Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Development) Fahmida Khanam, Director General of the Department of Environment Dr. Abdul Hamid and Chief Conservator of Forests of the Forest Department Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
